Fulvio Lucisano was a towering figure in Italian cinema, known as the "King of Producers" for his six-decade career spanning the industry's golden eras. Born in Rome on 1 August 1928, he began his career at the Istituto Luce before founding Italian International Film (IIF) in 1958, which grew into one of Italy's most influential independent production and distribution companies. Over his career he produced and distributed more than 600 films, ranging from comedy to auteur cinema, drama, and fantasy, and was credited with discovering the talent of Massimo Troisi, producing his celebrated 1981 debut Ricomincio da tre.

His filmography includes landmark works such as Un ragazzo di Calabria (1987), Il grande cocomero (1993), and Ninfa plebea (1996), as well as modern popular comedies like Notte prima degli esami and Nessuno mi può giudicare. He collaborated with major directors and stars including Lina Wertmüller, Luigi Comencini, Alberto Sordi, Luciano Salce, and Mario Bava. His achievements earned him five David di Donatello awards, four Nastri d'Argento, two Oscar nominations, and the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro, along with a special career David in 2009.

Beyond production, Lucisano served as president of ANICA from 1998 to 2001 and built the Lucisano Media Group, which continued his legacy in cinema and television. His daughters Federica and Paola carried on the family business. He died in Rome on 18 August 2026, shortly after his 98th birthday, closing a chapter of more than sixty years in the history of Italian film.
