Particulars

Frederick Gerald Foreman was a prominent figure in London gangland from the 1950s through the 1980s, best known as an enforcer and associate of the Kray twins. Nicknamed "Brown Bread Fred" in Cockney rhyming slang, he was famed in the underworld for his ability to dispose of bodies, and was often described in the press as the "Godfather of Crime."

He was convicted as an accessory to the murder of Jack "the Hat" McVitie and later sentenced to nine years for handling proceeds of the 1983 Security Express robbery, then the largest cash robbery in Britain. In his autobiography Respect he admitted to the murders of Frank "Mad Axeman" Mitchell and Tommy "Ginger" Marks, crimes for which he had earlier been acquitted at the Old Bailey. He served a total of 16 years in prison.

In later life Foreman became a published author of ten books about his criminal career and was the subject of the 2018 documentary biopic Fred, directed by his son, the actor Jamie Foreman.
