Particulars
Francisco Lino da Silva, known as Seu Lino, was a Brazilian samba composer and a leading figure of Afro-Amapá culture. He founded the Boêmios do Laguinho samba school in the Laguinho neighborhood of Macapá and became its greatest composer, writing 35 samba-enredo compositions that helped the school win around 20 carnival titles over the decades. Among his most celebrated works is Ritos e Mitos do Bairro do Laguinho, the championship samba-enredo of 1963, reportedly written in just 50 minutes during a flight between Macapá and Belém. He retired from the parades in 1992 with the enredo Que Fim Levaram as Nossas Pedras?. Beyond his music, Seu Lino was regarded as a living symbol of the black memory of Amapá, a guardian of popular traditions who helped make Laguinho one of the state's most important territories of samba and popular culture.
