Finnian Garbutt was born in County Down, Northern Ireland, around 1998. He began acting locally and secured his breakthrough role as police constable Ryan Power when he joined the third series of the BBC Northern Irish crime drama Hope Street in 2023, appearing in thirty episodes.

In addition to his television work, Garbutt made his big‑screen debut in the indie comedy‑drama Heartjackers, which premiered shortly before his death. He used his public profile to raise awareness of skin cancer, speaking openly about his own diagnosis and urging young men to seek medical advice.

Garbutt married and became a father in the years leading up to his passing. He continued to act while managing his health, entering hospice care after a terminal melanoma diagnosis. He died peacefully at home on 17 April 2026, aged 28, after a sudden decline in his condition.
