Fabrizio Plessi was an Italian artist born in Reggio Emilia on 3 April 1940, widely regarded as a pioneer of video installation art. He studied at the Liceo Artistico and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, where he later held the chair of painting. From the late 1960s his research centered on the theme of water, expressed through installations, films, videotapes and performances, and he began collaborating with the Centro Attività Visive in Ferrara in 1973 to produce his first videotapes.
