Edra Jean Peaker, known professionally as E.J. Peaker, was born in 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo, Colorado, and attended the University of New Mexico and the University of Vienna. Her career spanned film, television, and stage, with over 50 television commercials to her credit.

Peaker is best remembered for her role as Minnie Fay in the 1969 film adaptation of Hello, Dolly!, starring alongside Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau. On television, she portrayed Gloria Quigley in the ABC musical comedy series That's Life, which starred Robert Morse and impressed critics despite lasting only one season. Her other notable television roles included Rose Harris in The Greatest American Hero and Carla St. James in Madame's Place. She also co-hosted the syndicated variety series Top of the Month.

Beyond acting, Peaker served as associate producer of the 1993 made-for-television movie Broken Promises: Taking Emily Back. She was married twice, first to film producer Bob Zampino from 1965 to 1977, and then to accountant Steven Lee Salko from 1977 until his death in 2010. She lived in Encino, California, where she was known as a champion of the homeless.
