Particulars

Richard J. "Dick" Parry was born on 22 December 1942 in Kentford, Suffolk, England. He began his musical career in the mid‑1960s playing saxophone with the Cambridge‑based group The Soul Committee and later became a close friend of future Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. Gilmour invited Parry to contribute saxophone to Pink Floyd’s studio recordings, beginning with the seminal track “Money” on the 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon. He also performed on “Us and Them,” “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” and later on “Wearing the Inside Out” from The Division Bell, and joined the band on several tours throughout the 1970s and the 1994 world tour. Beyond Pink Floyd, Parry worked as a prolific session musician, appearing on albums by Bloodstone, touring with the Who’s brass section, and later collaborating with David Gilmour on live performances and DVDs. He continued to perform into the 2000s, including the 2006 On an Island tour and the Live 8 reunion. Dick Parry died on 22 May 2026 at the age of 83.
