Derrick J. Parker was a New York City police detective who rose to prominence in the 1990s as the head of the NYPD’s rap‑intelligence unit. In that role he monitored high‑profile hip‑hop artists and their entourages, aiming to prevent violence and coordinate with other law‑enforcement agencies. Parker’s investigations included the murders of Tupac Shakur, Christopher Wallace (The Notorious B.I.G.), and Run‑DMC DJ Jam Master Jay, as well as the 1999 Club New York shooting involving Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Beyond his police work, Parker served as a homicide and cold‑case detective for more than two decades, collaborating with the U.S. Marshals Service, ATF, DEA, and FBI.
