David Clayton-Thomas was a Canadian singer and songwriter renowned for his role as the lead vocalist of the American band Blood, Sweat & Tears. Born David Henry Thomsett in Kingston upon Thames, England, in 1941, he moved to Toronto during his youth where he began his musical journey performing in local clubs. His powerful voice and charismatic stage presence helped propel Blood, Sweat & Tears to international fame with hits like "Spinning Wheel" and "You've Made Me So Very Happy." The band's self-titled second album won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. Before joining Blood, Sweat & Tears, Clayton-Thomas fronted several Toronto bands and had a significant hit in Canada with the anti-war song "Brainwashed."
