Dame Jools Topp was born in the late 1950s in New Zealand and, together with her sister Lynda, formed the Topp Twins, a comedy and musical duo that became a cultural touchstone across the country. Their blend of humor, folk music, and sharp social commentary earned them widespread acclaim and a devoted following.

The twins broke new ground with their performances, championing LGBTQ rights, gender equality, and rural community issues, and they became beloved figures on television, stage, and in film. Their contributions to entertainment and activism were recognised in 2022 when Jools, along with Lynda, was appointed a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
