Departures of note

In 1983, 61‑year‑old Cliff Young won the inaugural Westfield Sydney to Melbourne Ultramarathon, an 875 km race between Westfield Parramatta and Westfield Doncaster.

He arrived in overalls and work boots, ran in new runners, and without dentures. After trailing the pack on day one, he woke at 2 am, ran while others slept, avoided sleep thereafter, and finished first, ten hours ahead of the runner placed second.
