Departures of note

Chuck Varga was a founding member and vocalist of GWAR, the American shock-rock heavy metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia in the mid-1980s. During his time with the band he performed as the character Sexecutioner (also spelled Sexicutioner), one of the grotesque interplanetary warrior personas at the center of GWAR's theatrical stage shows.

Varga was also a core member of Slave Pit Inc., the artist collective and production company behind GWAR's costumes, props, and mythology. He moved to Richmond in 1985 and helped build the elaborate stagecraft that made the band famous for its violent, satirical live performances.

His final appearance on a GWAR album came on 1995's Ragnarök, which featured him on lead vocals as Sexecutioner. Varga later lived in Brooklyn, New York, where he died in 2026 at the age of 68 following a battle with cancer.
