Carlos Américo Aguiar Monforte was born in Santos, Brazil, on 3 July 1949, and graduated in journalism from the Catholic University of Santos. He began his career in the early 1970s at the newspaper A Tribuna in his hometown before moving to O Estado de S. Paulo.

In 1978 he joined television as a reporter for Rede Globo in São Paulo, becoming anchor of Bom Dia São Paulo in 1981. In 1983 he became the first presenter of Bom Dia Brasil, broadcast from Brasília, where he remained until 1992 before becoming a special reporter for Jornal da Globo.

Monforte was involved in a notable 1994 incident when a private conversation with Finance Minister Rubens Ricupero was accidentally broadcast, leading to the minister's resignation. He later returned to present Bom Dia Brasil and Jornal da Globo, and in 2001 became coordinator and presenter of GloboNews in Brasília. He left Globo in December 2016 after 36 years with the network, having covered major political stories throughout his career.
