Bou Meng was a Cambodian artist who became one of only seven known adult survivors of the Khmer Rouge's S-21 torture center in Phnom Penh. Born in 1941 into a peasant family in Kampong Cham, he studied painting at a local wat and later worked as a painter for cinema theaters. He joined the Khmer Rouge revolution in 1971, but in 1977 he and his wife were arrested and taken to S-21, where his wife was killed.
