Beau Starr was born on September 1, 1944 in Queens, New York. Before entering acting he pursued a professional football career, playing tight end at Hofstra University, spending time on the New York Jets' taxi squad and later in the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger‑Cats. He transitioned to acting in the early 1980s, appearing on stage and quickly moving to television and film. Starr became known for his recurring role as Sheriff Ben Meeker in Halloween 4 (1988) and Halloween 5 (1989), and later portrayed Henry Hill’s father in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas (1990). He also had regular television roles, notably Lieutenant Harding Welsh on the Canadian series Due South, and guest‑starred on shows such as The A‑Team, Knight Rider, and NYPD Blue. Throughout his career he appeared in numerous movies and TV movies, including Summer School, Cinderella Man, and Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye. Beau Starr died peacefully of natural causes in Vancouver, Canada on April 24, 2026 at the age of 81.
