Particulars

Barry Mitchell was a British musician best known as Queen's second bassist, playing thirteen gigs with the band between August 1970 and January 1971. He joined after the departure of the band's first bassist and left before the group settled on long-time bassist John Deacon. Mitchell later explained that he had left because he "wasn't enthusiastic enough about their music" and did not see the band's potential at the time.

After leaving Queen, Mitchell played with Tiger, a proto-punk band formerly known as Crushed Butler, which disbanded in late 1971. In 2018 he spoke to Rolling Stone about his early days with the band, recalling concerts in England and reflecting on his departure.

Mitchell's death was announced by Greg Brooks, Queen's official archivist, and was met with tributes from friends and fans on social media.
