Departures of note

Barry Melrose was a Canadian professional hockey player and coach. Over 11 seasons as a rugged NHL defenseman, he played for teams including the Montreal Canadiens, Los Angeles Kings, and Detroit Red Wings before retiring as a player. He then moved into coaching, most notably guiding the Los Angeles Kings to the Stanley Cup Final in his first season behind the bench in 1993. After his coaching career, Melrose became one of hockey's most recognizable broadcast voices, serving as a colorful ESPN analyst from 1994 to 2022, where his energetic commentary and trademark style made him a fixture of NHL coverage for nearly three decades. He died at age 70.
