Princess Bajrakitiyabha was born on 7 December 1978 at the Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall in Bangkok, the eldest child of King Vajiralongkorn and his first wife Princess Soamsawali, making her the first grandchild of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. She received an extensive education, earning law degrees from Thammasat University and Cornell University, as well as a degree in international relations from Sukhothai Thammatirat University.
She began her career as a legal intern in Washington, D.C., and later served at the Thai Permanent Mission to the United Nations. She held positions in the Office of the Attorney General, was appointed Thai ambassador to Austria from 2012 to 2014, and later served as Chief of Staff of the King's Close Bodyguard Command, attaining the rank of general.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was a leading advocate for the rights of incarcerated women. She helped draft the United Nations "Bangkok Rules," the first set of guidelines addressing the treatment of women in the justice system, and oversaw projects such as Kamlangjai and ELFI that supported female inmates and their children.
After collapsing from a heart condition in December 2022, she received ongoing medical care. She died on 11 June 2026 at the age of 47, ending a life marked by public service, diplomatic work, and pioneering reforms for women in the penal system.
