Asha Bhosle (1933–2026) was an Indian playback singer celebrated as one of Hindi cinema’s most versatile and prolific vocalists.

Born in 1933 into the musical Mangeshkar family, Asha began singing in films as a child to support her household after her father’s death, making her first recording in 1943 and her Hindi debut in 1948.
Over an eight‑decade career she recorded more than 12,000 songs in dozens of languages, collaborating with composers such as O. P. Nayyar, R. D. Burman and later contemporary artists. She earned a record seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer, two National Film Awards, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the Padma Vibhushan, and was listed by Guinness as the most recorded artist.
Beyond singing, Bhosle acted in films, launched a successful business empire, and remained an influential cultural figure until her death from a heart attack at age 92 on 12 April 2026.
