Departures of note

Armand Peltzer became Julie’s lover and planned to murder her husband, Bernays. Suspecting that his own involvement would be obvious, Armand and Léon invented a man called Henry Vaughan.

Using that name, Léon contacted Bernays about an oceanographic project and arranged a meeting at an apartment rented for the purpose. On 7 January 1882, Léon shot Bernays in the back of the neck there.
