Anna Dawson was an English actress and singer, recognized for her portrayal of Violet, the affluent sister of the main character in the beloved BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances. Born in Bolton, Lancashire, Dawson spent part of her childhood in Tanganyika, where her father worked. She trained at the Elmhurst Ballet School and the Central School of Speech and Drama, beginning her career in repertory theatre companies. Dawson went on to perform in several West End musicals and appeared in various television shows, including Dixon of Dock Green in the 1960s and The Benny Hill Show in the 1980s. Her role as Violet in the final series of Keeping Up Appearances, though brief, contributed to the show's enduring popularity. She was married to John Boulter, a soloist from The Black and White Minstrel Show, until his death in December 2025. Anna Dawson passed away in July 2026 at the age of 88, just six months after her husband.
