Particulars

Angela Stribling was born in Buffalo, New York, and studied fashion merchandising and buying at the Fashion Institute of Technology before taking a job with American Airlines in the Washington, D.C., area. She soon moved into broadcasting, becoming a host on BET, where she spent four years fronting the entertainment news program Screen Scene and helped launch BET Jazz, hosting shows including Jazz Central, Jazz Discovery and Jazz Scene. She also worked as a reporter for Baltimore television's Evening Magazine and co-hosted On Time, and interned at WTTG-TV and WOL-AM before joining WHUR-FM. At WHUR she became the first woman to host The Original Quiet Storm, the long-running program of soulful slow jams, and later hosted the station's late-night relationship show Pillow Talk, which she also brought to SiriusXM. A classically trained jazz vocalist, Stribling performed at New York venues such as the Rainbow Room and the Supper Club and shared the stage with artists including Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan. She also had a cameo in the Eddie Murphy film The Distinguished Gentleman and appeared on The Real Housewives of Potomac. She died of brain cancer at age 58.
