Andrew Haden was an American federal prosecutor who spent 16 years at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California, joining the office in 2010. He rose to serve as acting U.S. Attorney for the district on two occasions, first filling a vacancy in 2023 and again in 2025, when he was selected by President Donald Trump to run the office after the firing of Biden appointee Tara McGrath.
A California native and Navy veteran with two overseas deployments, Haden earned his law degree from the University of San Diego. Colleagues and members of the San Diego legal community remembered him as a dedicated public servant who worked to support his team during government shutdowns and maintained friendships even with opposing counsel.
Haden was found deceased in the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Building in downtown San Diego in August 2026, after being reported missing. Police reported no foul play was suspected. He was 48 years old.
