Particulars

Andrei Mazandarani, known on stage as DJ Maz, was a Perth-based DJ and lifelong musician. At 18 he moved to London, where he spent a year attending warehouse parties and illegal raves before returning to Perth in 1990. He co-founded the band Yummy Fur, later renamed Six Mile High, with family and friends; the group sold out venues and signed with Columbia Records before he moved to Melbourne and eventually the UK. He returned to Western Australia in 2004 and built a reputation as one of the city's most in-demand DJs. With his brother Anton he ran the Death Disco club night at Amplifier Bar and Capitol for more than a decade, hosting 620 consecutive Saturday parties between 2007 and 2019, and later held multiple residencies across Perth, known for reading a room and filling dance floors. Mazandarani died in hospital in Perth in September 2026 at the age of 55, eight weeks after being diagnosed with gallbladder cancer. He had lived with Crohn's disease since his early twenties and was remembered as a private family man and devoted father of two.
