Particulars

Abe Shinichi was a Japanese manga artist who debuted in 1970 with "Yasashii Hito" (A Gentle Person), published in the monthly alternative manga magazine Garo. He became known for works such as "Miyoko Asagaya Kibun", and alongside artists such as Suzuki and Furukawa he was celebrated as one of the "Garo Sanba Karasu" (three crows of Garo), a group of leading figures in the influential underground and avant-garde manga scene of the era. His work appeared in the pages of Garo, which launched numerous legendary alternative manga artists during the 1960s and 1970s.

Abe continued to work as a manga artist for decades, and his son, Abe Kosei, is known as a musician in the rock bands SPARTA LOCALS and HINTO. Abe died on September 4, 2026, at age 62, after a battle with submandibular gland cancer. His son announced the death on social media, noting that the funeral was held among close relatives and that his father's work would live on.
